Quiet your mind and open your heart with Holotropic Breathwork®!

Holotropic Breathwork® is a proven method for inducing expanded states of consciousness created by Stanislav Grof, M.D., along with his late wife Christina in 1975. These states help quiet the mind, allowing physical and emotional sensations to surface, commonly leading to healing, insights, heightened creativity, feelings of interconnectedness, or mystical experiences. The key components include deeper and accelerated breathing, evocative music, and sometimes a form of hands on resistance oriented bodywork. Holotropic Breathwork facilitation follows best practices for expanded states workshops that include preparation, session, and integration.

A typical session begins with a preparation talk to help everyone prepare for the workshop. Each session involves two 3-hour segments, one as a "breather" and one as a "sitter". In a darkened room, the breather wears an eyemask (voluntary) to reduce sensory inputs while powerful, carefully curated music plays through a high quality sound system. The music is a crucial accompaniment to the breath to induce expanded states of consciousness. After the segment completes, the breather is invited to the art room to create a non-verbal expression of what they experienced. After eating a nutritious meal, the breather and sitter switch for the second session. Integration begins with a sharing circle where each participant is invited to share the parts of their experience that had the most heart and meaning.

Holotropic Breathwork® stands out from other breathwork practices as it provides a foundation for greater depth exploration and integration. Breathwork facilitators have taken 600+ hours of training over at least two years and commit to ongoing educational requirements and self-development. Grof Transpersonal Training is an exceptional, safe, and ideal training for facilitating non-ordinary states of consciousness explorations. Holotropic Breathwork® session are held periodically in Salmon Arm, B.C., a beautiful city situated on the magnificent Shuswap Lake.
